GOODFOOT FOR ADIDAS CONSORTIUM - Zx8000
2008

When adidas presented us with the opportunity to take a swing at reinterpreting one of their classic ZX series models, we wanted to take a different approach than most. We were familiar with adidas Grun program, utilizing recycled and reused material, and with that in mind we set out to design as close to a fully recycled shoe as possible.

Utilizing soy based dyes, chrome free suede, biodegradable adhesives as well as a host of other fully or partially recycled materials in every step of the manufacturing, we presented our finished product that aides in reducing your carbon footprint, yet still holds true to look and feel that we desired.

STUSSY VANCOUVER CHAPTER
2008

When we broke ground on the buildout of our new Stussy Vancouver space, we quickly realized the plans we had for the stores fixtures were far more advanced than what most had to offer us. Retailers just couldn’t get us what we needed, either the measurements were off, or the angles didn’t work. We were left with but one option; to have the fixtures custom milled.

Quickly turning this setback into a unique opportunity, we went directly to the source, and had the opportunity not only to photo document the journey of the wood from the forest to the floor, but to produce goods within a 30 mile radius of our stores location.

This search led us to Squamish a small coastal town with a rich history in forestry, and just a mere forty-five minute drive north of Vancouver. Documenting every step along the way of the process, was as fulfilling as the store opening itself.

BUCKLER

British born, New York based fashion designer Andrew Buckler prepared to open his first Canadian showroom in Toronto in 2008, his fourth worldwide and we were contracted to handle all design and execution of the buildout

Transforming what was previously a candy shop into a elegant fashion showroom and boutique, we utilized the larger front space to provide an open concept displaying the wide range of Bucklers offering in the, with an intimate tailors setting towards the back for fittings.

GOODFOOT FOR NIKE SB. “STRANGE BREW”
SEASON: HOLIDAY 2007

In our first product collaboration with Nike SB, we wanted to express our unique Canadian identity through the collection, and aided in doing so by drawing heavily from the Canadian television show SCTV, in particular the charchacters Bob and Doug Mackenzie, as created by comedians Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas in the early 80’s.

The success of these characters brought forth a spin off movie “Strange Brew” in 1983, a cult classic embodying and poking light at all our Canadian stereotypes, form hockey to donuts, and most importantly beer. Taking the movie and all these influences in mind we attempted to translate and integrate that spirit into Nike SB, Winter gear and traditional outdoor fabrics were utilized to put forth this idea in what proved a highly successful project, with a distinct Canadian Heritage.

STUSSY TORONTO CHAPTER
1 Year Anniversary: Sam The Record Man
2008

OrIginally founded by the Sniderman family as an appliance store, in 1937 Sam Sniderman shifted gears and focused on selling records, leading Sam the Record Man to be Canada’s leading music chain for the better part of a century. Sadly, in 2007 Sam the Record man closed its doors at its Younge st location, a Toronto landmark with its iconic façade and its Neon Sign emulating 2 giant vinyl records. In 2008, one year after its closure, and a year after the opening of our Stussy Toronto flagship, we paid homage to a Canadian legacy with this anniversary tee.

STUSSY TORONTO CHAPTER
1 Year Anniversary: Honest Ed's
2008

"Honest" Ed Mirvish (1914-2007) was a Toronto legend. Ed was known as an eccentric; throwing huge street parties on his birthday (named Ed Mirvish Day in 2003), giving away thousands of free turkeys on Thanksgiving and Christmas as well as being responsible for The Royal Alexandre, The Princess of Wales & Canon Theatres - almost single-handedly keeping theater arts alive in the city. His pièce de résistance, however, is Honest Ed's: A labyrinthine discount store and Toronto landmark that takes up an entire city block. Founded in 1948, it's a 2-building maze of Elvis busts, canned sardines, corduroy pants and crooked floors. With our one year anniversary at Stussy Toronto, we show our respect to the man, with a tee that resembles the monstrous signs that adorn his famous landmark.
